Knox / Terms of Use

Terms of Use

Last updated: June 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Knox mobile application and related services operated by Kokoro Collective Pty Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). By using Knox, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

Knox is a personal and family health records application that helps you store, organise, and understand your health data. Knox includes an AI companion ("Athena") that synthesizes data across pathology results, wearables, and family history to highlight what matters. Every recommendation Athena makes is traceable to a clinical guideline.

Knox is not a medical device. Knox does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Athena does not diagnose conditions. Information provided by Athena is educational and informational only. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical decisions.

2. Your Account

Knox uses device-bound cryptographic keys protected by biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint) instead of traditional passwords. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and your 12-word recovery phrase. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must be at least 16 years old to create a Knox account. Parents and guardians may manage health records for children under 16 using the family vault, which supports up to five members total.

3. Key Management and Data Recovery

Knox uses a zero-knowledge architecture. Your data is encrypted with keys that only you hold. We cannot reset your keys or recover your data if you lose access to all of your devices and your 12-word recovery phrase. You are solely responsible for safeguarding your recovery phrase. Loss of all keys results in permanent loss of access to your data.

4. Your Data

You retain full ownership of all health data you upload to Knox. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your data. You grant us a limited licence to process your data solely to provide the service, including on-device encryption, encrypted cloud backup, and AI analysis when you request it.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload any data to Knox, including health records belonging to family members you manage. If you connect Knox to My Health Record, you acknowledge that My Health Record data is subject to the My Health Records Act 2012 (Cth) and will not be used for insurance, employment, or AI processing purposes.

5. AI Features and De-identification

When you request AI analysis, Knox de-identifies your documents on-device by stripping personal identifiers (name, date of birth, Medicare number) before sending content to cloud AI services. Certain sensitive categories, including genetic data and mental health records, are never sent to cloud AI. AI-generated content may contain errors or inaccuracies. You should:

  • Verify AI-generated information with your healthcare provider
  • Not rely solely on Athena for medical decisions
  • Understand that Athena is a comprehension aid, not a medical professional

6. Emergency Access

Knox offers an Emergency Access feature that allows you to generate a time-limited, read-only code for trusted persons to access critical health information (medications, allergies, emergency contacts). You are responsible for choosing when and with whom to share Emergency Access. Access can be revoked at any time. We are not liable for any actions taken by persons to whom you grant Emergency Access.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use Knox for any unlawful purpose
  • Upload data that you do not have the right to store
  • Attempt to access other users' data or circumvent security measures
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application
  • Use Knox to provide medical advice to others

8. Subscriptions and Payments

Knox may offer free and paid tiers. Paid subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, depending on your platform. Subscription terms, pricing, and cancellation policies are governed by the respective store's terms. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your store settings.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kokoro Collective Pty Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data resulting from lost encryption keys. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Knox is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

10. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it through the application. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your encrypted data will be permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days. Local data on your device is deleted when you remove the app.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the application or email. Your continued use of Knox after changes constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New South Wales, Australia. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of New South Wales, Australia.
